Our program will survey the rapidly changing employment law landscape, regarding marijuana use.  The program will provide updates on this subject given the substantial developments in New Jersey and New York over this past year, including New Jersey voters’ adoption of a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana.  The developments in legalization has significant implications for employers with respect to pre- and post- employment drug testing and administration of reasonable accommodations for those with medical conditions treated by medical marijuana.  The program will also discuss the changes in the workplace brought on by the pandemic, including workplace safety (including COVID-19 testing, whether to require vaccination and masks in the workplace where employers have discretion, remote-work, and wage and hour developments.  The presentation will be interactive, with ongoing opportunities for questions and answers throughout the program.

Our Presenter is Gateway’s Legislative Affairs Chairperson, Lauren Paxton. Lauren is Of Counsel at Calcagni & Kanefsky, where she focuses on employment litigation, and counsels clients on a wide range of human resources issues, including employee hiring practices, workplace harassment, discrimination, and whistleblowing, as well as worker status, classification, and exemption. Lauren was also an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) for six years handling prosecution of employees for embezzlement and theft, and defending federal agencies against employment discrimination claims.  She graduated from TCNJ and Brooklyn Law School, and is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York.
